baby names - cast your votes now!

so, if you haven't figured it out yet, we don't know if we're having a boy or girl. and we like it that way, thank you very much.

and given that we don't know gender, and we're keen to wait until we meet the little tyke before donning a name, we have two lists of names that we're whittling down. what are Your thoughts on these names? with the exception of the first name in each list, we're listing them in alpha order so as not to create any bias...

Tiger Danger:
Ayman
Dietrich (to be called Diesel)
Grant
Henry
Lucas Thomas
Quentin
Thaddeus (to be called Thad - Not Tad, thank you)
(middle name still TBD except where indicated... maybe Henry, maybe James, maybe Dietrich, maybe Danger. yes for real, Danger.)

Tiger Lily:
Emann Christine
Emma Lyn
Hannah Lyn
Lainey
Lily
Norah
Natalie
Thea
Vivian
(again, middle name still TBD except where indicated... maybe Hayden, maybe Lyn, maybe one of the other names not chosen)

please post a comment to cast your vote for a name for each gender.

we're 38 weeks tomorrow, and both of us (dan and me) have colds, though dan is mostly over his. lots of vitamin c, fluids, and rest in the beautiful sunshine streaming through the big windows at mom and dad's today while he's hunting and maybe i can kick it sans medicaments. please and thank you.

You know, I really love all those names! One of our friends recently used Thaddeus as a middle name, and it's great...actually, Josh's uncle's name is Thaddeus (tho we call him Ted). I will LAUGH if you name your baby Diesel Danger. (But in a good way, believe me.) And our niece's name is Lainey (short for Elaina). You guys are just trying to become Mikruts, aren't you? :)

All that being said, my four favorites are Henry, Quentin, Natalie, and Vivian. And I love Norah, too. Gosh, I'm no help, am I?

Hmmmm.... I like Henry and Thaddeus (tho I don't know what you have against Tad!) But Diesel? Oh, I hope not. Sorry.

For Tiger Lily, I like Hannah but I know several little girls named Hannah. I know a few little Emma's too. Lily is my favorite but I do like Norah, too, except that Norah Elzinga has two vowels in a row which is kind of hard to say. I know you didn't ask for it but I would add Abigail to the girls list.

That's my $0.02.

Can't wait to see all of you!
Love, Aunt Martha

I looooove Hayden, can't that be the first name? Also like the sound of Henry Thaddeus Elzinga... Don't ask me why, I just do! Of course, Ayman (the egyptian one) would almost die of pride if you would call the little one that.

For a girl I like Lainey Elzinga. I had two names for Eloise and Lily was the second one, so that name is very dear to me too.

Don't care what you call it as long as you send me loads of pics!

Love you darlings, Melinda

The girls of the house would like to contribute our thoughts/votes. Jannelle likes Henry James and Norah Jane. Bianca likes Henry Lucas and Lily Pintobeans (just popped in her head), no Lily Thea. I like Quentin James and feel a bit undecided about a girls name. Lily really does seem most appropriate since she has been Lily for a long time already but I like Norah/Nora, Thea, and Emma too. If Tiger is a boy, we will probably call him Tiger Danger no matter what you name him. :) We miss you guys and look forward to seeing little one. God Bless.

I never win these things. but here goes:

For the boy--I like Lucas Thomas, and I like Grant.

For the girl--I like Emma Lyn (I have a niece named Emmalyn--one word--so I'm biased), or Lily.

There was an ugly girl in my elementary school named Thea, so that's a hard one for me. Although I like Alathea ("truth") . . .

Lucas Deitrich Elzinga. Lucas Elzinga. Lucas D. Elzinga. LDE
very nice. Lucas Danger. both combine gentle with strong.

Lily Hayden Elzinga. Lily Elzinga. LHE. Hayden Lily Elzinga. Hayden Elzinga. HLE.

I am making turkey jook. wish i could give you some...for healing & strength! love to you both,
jan.

I am sorry, you have named him already.

Tiger Danger it is.

from the peanut gallery of : Rolland ; December 1, 2008 08:03 PM

I already know it's a boy, but Lily Pintobeans is awesome.

I just want to cast my vote AGAINST Quentin...reminds me of too many kids at Creston!

Jacquelyn's vote:
Tiger Danger-
I like Dietrich Henry Elzinga. :)
I also love the name Lucus, but I know that might be getting voted out.

Tiger Lily-
I know a lot of Hannah's and Emma's so they are out for me.
I love Lainey. And Lily, Norah, and Natalie are great!!

But all the names are wonderful. Whatever this little ones name is I will love him or her so much!!!

Jeff's vote:

Tiger Danger:

Dietrich Danger - I really have no problems with this. Diesel is a cool nickname.

Ok, so I'm not sure of Danger as a middle name, but for some reason it does just sound cool. Alliteration perhaps.

Tiger Lily:

I vote for Lainey, with Lily being the runner up, then Natalie, and Norah. Emma is overdone, Hannah is too.

Such as it is
my vote would be
Boy; 'HENRY' (such an HONOR to GREAT GRANDPA)
Besides that the Hank Elzinga we knew from
Atwood was a wonderful man for 94 yrs.
Girl;? its going to be a boy!!!! so we'll cross that bridge when we get to it!
But then I would say 'NORAH JEAN'

from the peanut gallery of : Grandpa Dave ; December 5, 2008 11:45 AM

I guess it is time for Grandma Donna to cast her vote too!

I agree that Great Grandpa Henry will just be bursting his buttons if his newest great grandson is named after him! (We have not told him yet just in case it is not chosen!) Henry James Elzinga, Henry David Elzinga or Henry Daniel Elzinga would be good versions of the names you listed. I also like Grant and Lucas.

For my little girl's little girl, I like Natalie, Vivian and Nora (without the H) in no particular order. Natalie Lyn Elzinga, Vivian Arlene (?) Elzinga, Vivian Louise Elzinga, Nora Joanne Elzinga all have nice rings.

I always like names that are strong but gentle and not too cutesey (is that how you spell it?) Remember, the child won't always be a child and try to picture the name on a doctorate degree hanging on the wall!

As was mentioned earlier, it really does not matter to me what the baby's name is, only that he or she is healthy and happy! I can't wait to meet him or her! xoxoxo

Hi there!

Boy - Grant Thomas
Girl - Lily Hayden

And I am ever so sorry I couldn't attend your shower. I think I'm waiting for the little Tiger to arrive - so that I can come over and photograph he or she?

from the peanut gallery of : Stacy N ; December 5, 2008 08:07 PM

Okay...Here goes! Reading all the comments gave me a lot to think about after I already thought up my votes to cast. Ohh..BUGGER! Well, I will say first I can not wait to meet this Dangerous little Lily! For a boy I now feel I am going to still stick with Henry James and if it seems too literal go with Henry Quentin but I really like the connection to the grandparents. For a girl I was about to say Norah but now after reading the wonderful ideas above I have fallen in LOVE with Alathea (so unique) Hayden. Hope everyone is well (free of colds) and ready for the arrival of God's little miracle!
Much love, Kristen

Well - I'm partial to Quentin for a boy. That would have been Shelby's name if she had been a boy... but I really like Henry and Thaddeus too...

And for a girl... I'm used to Lily... and it just fits for her (if s/he is a she). :)
