Surgery Scheduled for Monday
for what you might ask?
seems the Heeres trait of bad muscle fascia has reared its head again and i have an umbilical hernia. this is something that runs in my family. my grandad henry has had two hernias repaired, my dad two, my brother two, and my aunt two, and me one. and now i'm about to go in for a second repair. this is not a direct result of the pregnancy, but with the extra pressure on the inside, things got stretched and a bit of the "fatty layer" that's supposed to be inside got pushed outside the fascia liner and now as things get back to their normal size and shape that bit is getting squeezed and is Very Uncomfortable. like especially when i pick up my now 12+ pound son and his little knees go into my belly button. makes me wince and get all teary eyed.
it started bothering me on monday, got more sore on tuesday, and by tuesday night i said "if it's not better tomorrow i'm calling my doc". well wednesday it was worse, and i saw the OB wednesday afternoon and she confirmed that it was a hernia, and ruled out the need for a run to ER by listening for bowel sounds and asking me a list of questions (i'll spare you the details). then she made a phone call and got me in for a consult with a surgeon for thursday morning 8:30 - before normal business hours - and the surgeon confirmed that surgery would be necessary for the repair and left the timing up to me based on how uncomfortable i am... like we can do this "now" or we can wait until i'm more healed from the c-section. because i'm in a considerable amount of pain now and henry's only going to get heavier and more demanding on my time, we decided that "now" is better.
but i'm not looking forward to it and it quite likely means that henry will get fed in some other fashion than that direct line of warm heavy whipping cream that i've been giving him his whole life. i'm pumping extra this weekend just in case.
your prayers are appreciated for the upcoming week of recovery. my mom is coming down to help for at least a few days, but i probably won't be able to so much as lift him on to my belly the first night, let alone walk with him or manage changing a diaper or clothes.

Hope you will feel better soon. Don't worry about breastfeeding, it will start up as soon as your little boy can 'have a go' again!
This all brings very tender memories back of nursing Eloise and walking miles with her to settle her tummy.

Dear Carrie & Dan,
It sounds like your adventure is still rolling along. So, Henry is 12+! Has he started to smile yet?
Carrie, I just read the posting and wanted you to know that I will be praying. Idella will be back in the office tomorrow and we will be meeting for daily prayer again. Did you buy a copy of the book so that we can all be reading the same thing?
